Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (IATA: CGK, ICAO: WIII) is a main airport which serves flights to Jakarta, Indonesia. The airport is named according to the name duumvirate proclaimer of independence of Indonesia, Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, which is also the President and the Vice President of Indonesia first. The airport is located at Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten, with its IATA code is CGK.
The airport began operations in 1985, replacing the Kemayoran Airport (domestic flights) in Central Jakarta, and East Jakarta Halim. Kemayoran Airport has been closed, while Halim Airport is still operating, servicing charter flights and military. Terminal 2 was opened in 1992.
Soekarno-Hatta has an area of 18 km², has two parallel runway separated by two taxiways along 2.4 km. There are two main terminal buildings: Terminal 1 for all domestic flights except flights operated by Garuda Indonesia and Terminal 2 serves all domestic as well international flights by Garuda.
Each of the terminal building is divided into 3 concourse. Terminal 1A, 1B, and 1C are used (mostly) for domestic flights by local airlines. Terminal 1A serves flights by Lion Air and Wings Air. Terminal 1B serves flights by Kartika Airlines and Sriwijaya Air. While the terminal 1C serves flights by Airfast Indonesia and Citilink.
2D and 2E terminal used to serve all international flights of foreign airlines. Terminal 2D for all airlines served outside by PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta, one of the airport ground crew. Terminal 2E for international airlines served by Garuda, including all international flights Garuda and Merpati. Terminal 2F for domestic flights Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines.
Terminal 3 was completed on 15 April 2009. The completion of Terminal 3 will be used by low cost airlines. Currently there are two airlines that use Terminal 3 that Indonesia AirAsia and Mandala Airlines. and is planned to be able to accommodate the Airbus A380 model aircraft. SHIA prime landing A380 (SQ-232) on May 4, 2012 although the status of the landing itself is divert landing.
The airport was designed by French architect Paul Andreu, who also designed the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France. One of the major characteristics of this airport is the local architectural style, and tropical gardens in the lounge waiting area.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has 180 stores check-in (check-in counter), 42 baggage, and 45 gates. Each sub-terminal (AF, terminal 1-2) has 25 outlets check-ins, baggage 5 (8 in 2D-2E) and 7 gates. Terminal 3 has 30 stores check-ins, baggage 6 and 3 gates.
