Bandung word comes from the weir or dam Citarum by the lava of Mount Maras ago to form the lake. Legends told by old people in Bandung said that namaBandung water taken from a vehicle which consists of two boats tied up alongside the so-called boat bandungyang used by the Regent of Bandung, RA Wiranatakusumah II, to sail Ci WTC in seeking the seat of the new district to replace the old capital in Dayeuhkolot.
Based on the philosophy of Sunda, Bandung word is also derived from the phrase Nga-Bandung late Banda Goon, which is a sacred and noble sentence because it contains Sunda teaching value. Nga-Bandung's means witness or testify. Banda is everything that is in the nature of life that is in the earth and atmosphere, both living beings and inanimate objects. Synonyms of banda is a treasure. Goon means Mother or Earth, also known as Mother Earth where Banda is located.
Of Earth-was all born natural to live as Banda. Everything that is in the nature of life is Banda Goon, namely earth, water, earth, fire, plants, animals, human beings and all the earth entrails. The sky which is outside the atmosphere is a witness, Nu Nga-Bandung's. Known as Wasa or Sanghyang Wisesa, ruling in the infinite sky and the whole universe, including the Earth. So the word Bandung has value as a philosophical nature where all living creatures and inanimate are born and live in Mother Earth's existence witnessed by the Almighty.
Bandung geographically is seen surrounded by mountains, and it shows that in the past the city of Bandung is indeed a pond or lake. Sangkuriang legend is a legend that tells how the formation of the lake Bandung, and how the formation of Mount Maras, and how well the dry lake basin Bandung leaving today. Water from the lake is dry Bandung legend as flowing through a cave named Sangkyang Tikoro.
Area last remnants of the dry lake Bandung is Situ Aksan, who in the 1970s was still a lake tour place, but is now a residential area for settlement.
Bandung began to be used as residential areas since the colonial Dutch East Indies government, through the Governor-General Herman Willem Daendels that time, issued a decree dated 25 September 1810 on the development of infrastructure for the region. This event later immortalized as the anniversary of the city of Bandung.
Bandung city officially received the status of municipality (city) of the Governor General JB van Heutsz on 1 April 1906 [10] with an area of approximately 900 ha at that time, and increased to 8,000 ha in 1949, to the last increase to an area at this time.
During the war of independence, on March 24, 1946, most of the town was burned by the freedom fighters as part of the war strategy that time. This event is known as the Bandung Sea of Fire and immortalized in song Halo-Halo Bandung. In addition the city is then abandoned by most of its inhabitants were displaced to other areas.
On April 18, 1955 at the Merdeka Building formerly named Concordia, Jl. Asia and Africa, now, across from the Hotel Savoy Homann, held for the first time the Asian-African Conference which then returns the Asia-Africa Summit 2005 was held in this city on 19 April-24 April, 2005.
On April 24, 2015, Asia-Africa Conference held in the city's back after 20 April-23 April 2015 held in Jakarta.
